*Reflections from Within

Opposite of what a cynic would say, most emotional revelations are no flights of fancy.  Poetry, music, painting, and all other forms of creative artistry have always been, in fact, little smatterings of insight that reflect what rests deepest within us.  From fear to passion, they can quite literally render us naked in front of the world if we make it a point to exhibit these mirror images.  Although I’m not the most beautiful object you’ll muse over in your life, the body of my work nonetheless represents all that I am, put together and dissected.  One glimpse, by itself, doesn’t reveal a whole lot about an individual.  That’s like looking at a single snapshot of a person, instead of flipping through the pages of their entire family album.  The more closely you look and correlate all the pages together, the greater the insight into the living spaces of their lives, family, and soul.  Poetry and art can work to open your internal mind’s eye and ears to gather information beneath the surfaces of yourself (or another person) in the exact same intuitive way.  For example, if the chapters of this book were eliminated and the only thing you were left holding were the pages of my sketches and poetry strung end-to-end, you would still discover a deeper biography than what a thousand sentences could ever tell

How to Get the Most Out of the Graphics and Verses

Mentally take-in when a sentence visually ends as this one….  Notice how your thoughts automatically dwelled and hesitated for a second.  I placed these ellipses in strategic places in order to give your subconscious a moment to change its gears from one thought to another.  I like to use auditory aides as well in my mental classroom.  The lines of my verses have been indented, paused, and staggered in the manner they are for a purpose.  I can’t create a mood like Shakespeare or write a verse like Longfellow, either; but if you pause or draw out your thoughts when a line cues your eye to do so, a sense of rhythm will naturally evolve.  Think of the words as lyrics to a tune only your mind can hear.  Then, flow with them accordingly.  Before your mind can even awaken to yourself and soul, you must first learn to tap into the power of your innermost senses to essentially feel, see, listen, and think on two deeper levels: first your subconscious – next your soul.  These are the keys that unlock the doors to your everything.  Self-discovery, self-actualization, and spiritual harmony are as easy as one-two-three from then and forever on.

The Heart

The human heart is not the organ responsible for generating this most wondrous of emotions we call “love”, of course, but there is no denying it is from this area of our anatomy that we seem to feel the pulses of its greatest effect.  Our chests get tight, our breaths shorten, our hearts race, and even can our stomachs start to churn.  Ohh moan….  There it goes again, as soon as we allow ourselves to really dwell on this emotion.  In spite of all our arguments, pretenses, or logical rationalizations, there honestly isn’t any sense pretending that underneath it all we all share a romantic side.  Our lives are filled with it.  I am not speaking about the element of infatuation.  The difference between infatuation and love is the same as the differences between plain sex and intimacy.

Ever hear of the Law of Attraction?  The driving elements behind the law of attraction are the internal voices and energy of our feelings.  It’s basic physics.  Our brains and physical bodies are anything but inert.  The two-way streams of our feelings (emotional waves) are nothing more than an array of invisible energy magnets that will eventually draw into our lives whatever it is we are putting out.  If you feel and want love, you’ll generally find it in some shape or form.  If it’s shallowness, negativity, and dysfunction that your mentality is putting out, then that’s what you’ll find.  If it’s a combination of both, bet your pennies that you will very likely attract this combination into your life in the same semi-conductive way.  If you are looking for a lover to fill a particular set of needs with little thought about what you hope to give back to them, then this is what you will draw in your life, too.  You want one-sided love?  You got it!  These particular teams are based on mostly take, take, take -- and what a lover can fulfill in me, me, me.  Kindred means alike, side by side.  They are never the infusion of two into One.

It is important to note that what we project outwardly and attract back (or repel) in our lives is not limited to our relationships.  The law of attraction can be used to our advantage or disadvantage in just about any life setting you can think of.  In this context however, I will illustrate how the same principle can be deployed to the diversity of our hearts.  There are five basic ways that the law of attraction can potentially play itself out relative to our romantic relationships.  (*See my book for details on these.)

Have you ever lived through a period in your life that, in retrospect, the moments seem to have an unreal quality about them?  That’s how in hindsight the entire 1990s feel to me.  I know I lived through the storms of those years, of course, but because so many life-altering changes took place so fast, the years appear to have swirled by quicker than my mind can recall.  I can’t even remember who I was.  On the whole, the swells represent nothing else but one huge nightmare and blister on the face of time, where joy punctuated itself only here and there through the activities of my daughters.  Aside from the sight of their sweet smiles and some unseen hope from far beyond, there hadn’t been any other form of love my eyes had been able to focus on for strength.  The prophecy of my childhood vision had come true.  I was continually trapped as that young girl running shell shocked and frightened through the minefields that fate seemed bent on dealing her.  If the contents of my life could be drawn together upon one canvas, the emotional burns would easily be likened to Dante’s Hell.

Excerpts from story-poem “Scheme” on pages 30-32.

Scared and frightened, in a traumatized state

I shrink in confusion from the circle of hate

The vision, a dream from a child’s point of view

It told of conditions of what I’d go through

Towering infernos, a mile walked through hell

As walls fall apart death’s scent that I smell

Flying embers, their streams in the night

I run without going forever the fright

Tormented – Confused, I look all around

Trapped and bemused I fall to the ground

Helplessly cornered, the crowd closing in

As towers keep crumbling I scream from within

Life’s forges before me, my past now behind

Love’s task to accomplish no matter its find

Thus scared into action, I run towards the sound

Thus spurred into movement, I leap with a bound

I had that vision when I was only 12 years old, but it took me until the age of 31 before I had matured enough to understand that the scenes did not just represent sadness and destruction, but also held for me all the hopes for a tomorrow that a woman could hope for.  I honestly don’t know what would have happened to me if that prophecy had not equally held the liberations of both grief and a future I could rejoice about:   A man I affectionately call my Eagle, and without question the births of my children.   If you go back and take a quick peek to the graph located on page 197, you will notice that all of our parental and mating instincts are located right smack in the middle between our heart and soul, and flanked by our mind and body.  It is the two elements of our mate and children which rule our love lives the absolute most….

No Flight of Fancy

*Lines from the poem “Flights” on page 29

Flight of the Hawk

  To find her heart

Never looking over her shoulder

Not once does she look back

She searches for the land

  Her mind has always seen

She searches for the man

  The Eagle in her dreams

Is there really such a thing as soul mates or a lover who is meant to crisscross your life?  Yes, I know for a fact there is such a thing as predestination in some deeper segments of our lives.  Because my near death forced me to go undergo a spiritual metamorphosis as a child and I have, since birth, been highly intuitive by nature, I became aware of my love interest on a psychic level years ago.  But let’s for fun make believe I’d been given no prior insight or glimpse of this lover, would that therefore eliminate his existence?  Just as no one can think a person into life, neither can their birth be pretended away just because you wish the individual wasn’t around.  It’s not hard to figure out, though, why the general public is skeptical about such a concept when for every marriage ceremony a divorce takes place.  Our relationships are what we make of them, so consequently have they no bearing what-so-ever whether or not they were meant to be in the long run.  Have you never had the feeling or known someone else to say, “The first time we met, I knew ?   Now where did that come from I wonder…?

Flight of the Eagle
  To locate his soul
Realizing through his journey
He’s the steel - She the gold

He reaches out in mind
  His eyes wandering through dreams
He reaches out to find
  The Hawk he’s never seen

Part of this next chapter is written out as if I were re-articulating a psychic reading. Never mind the arrangements of my sentence structures.  The wording is meant to help you recognize intuitive glimpses when you get them.  Seldom do these insights flow out in beautifully written, grammatically correct sentences, so don’t let them fool you.  They tend to be choppy impressions one partial clue at a time.  The knack of a good evaluation is knowing how to assemble all the pieces together in order to recreate the basic palate (or profile) your mind has given you.  My best wishes to you.  I hope this chapter will help you to find and recognize your own soul’s other-half in the manner it has helped me to better determine mine.

His arms around her

  The home she’s been seeking

Love returned…

He’s the key to her heart

Her body she gives him

  Only his for the keeping

Soul returned…

She’s the beat of his heart

Hint:  See yourself driving again.  But this time turn your collective book of knowledge into a road atlas to guide your journey.  Learning to read the road signs that I had you assemble in your own *Gallery of Truths can work for you in the same way.
